There is nothing quite like climbing a frozen waterfall. It’s certainly one of the most fantastic winter adventures in the San Juan Mountains! Using ice axes, crampons, helmets and harnesses, you will have the chance to scale Telluride’s most exquisite ice in some of our region’s most beautiful settings.

Ice Skating

Telluride has two wonderful Ice Skating rinks to skate on. One is located in the center of Mountain Village just a few steps from Lumière and offers endless family-friendly fun. Teach the little ones to skate, take a spin around the rink with your loved one, or sit back on one of the couches that line the rink and kick your feet up. Alternatively you can choose to skate in Telluride Town Park with locals & visitors alike.

If you’ve been reluctant to book a ski vacation for your family because not everyone knows how to ski, because you’re not sure what the weather will be like, or because you’re worried that your kids won’t want to spend all day, every day of your holiday downhill skiing or snowboarding, you’re in luck. Telluride offers an abundance of outdoor winter activities to choose from. Sledding on firecracker hill is a local’s favorite and located at the south end of Town Park. Just let our team know you would like to go sledding and we can arrange the sleds for you.

Nordic Skiing

Telluride Nordic Center in Town park rents sleds, ice skating and cross country skis. Fill your day with plenty of outdoor fun. Just outside the doors of the Nordic Center you will find three kilometers of immaculately groomed trail winding through Town Park. There is then a six kilometer groomed trail that winds along the breathtaking valley floor with views of the surrounding peaks. The latest way to play with two wheels on snow! Fat biking is a super fun activity recently introduced and offers the fitness enthusiast a great cardio workout. A newish development in mountain biking technology, a sport that expands regular 2- to 2.25-inch tires to a large, cushy, cruising 4-5 inches and allows you to ride on the incredible mountain bike trails in the winter.
